Carlsberg considers closing Tetley brewery

Carlsberg is considering shutting its Tetley brewery in Leeds.

The group is thought to be reviewing the brewery’s future as part of a restructuring of its British operations. Carlsberg UK’s accounts for 2005 show land and buildings in both Leeds and Northampton are valued at £136.2m. Analysts believe the Leeds site alone could be worth up to £100m.

Carlsberg might consider relocating the Leeds facility which would free up the site for redevelopment. A document published by Leeds City Council, dubbed the Leeds City Centre Action Plan, identifies the site as being suitable for office, leisure, hotel and conference use and for “large-format retailing”.
