The son of Barbara Cartland, Ian McCorquodale, is battling to save Britain’s first permanent Gypsy site near Hatfield Hertfordshire.
Cartland established the encampment 40 years ago. Now plans for a composting plant nearby are threatening their homes. It is feared the stench will be so bad that the gypsies will be forced out.
Thames Water said it would do everything it could to run the plant without affecting residents. Odour control units would be used.
