Sport and media group Caspian has made a bid to buy Leeds Rugby Club following its successful bid for Leeds United Football Club this summer. However, if it goes ahead, the deal could endanger the future of test match cricket at Headingley.
Headingley and the rugby club are owned by Leeds Cricket Football & Athletic Club. The board meets this week to discuss the offer – if it accepts, the rugby club will ground-share with the football club at Elland Road. Without the rugby team however, Headingley might struggle to survive solely on the income from cricket alone.
