Castlethorn prunes plans for south Dublin residential scheme

Castlethorn Construction has substantially revised its plans for a £90m residential scheme on the fringe of the south Dublin suburb of Stepaside.

The proposal for an aparthotel (a hotel with self-catering apartments) has been replaced with a 43,630 sq ft (4,307 sq m) “health and beauty” complex, a restaurant and 36 flats.

The latest changes will bring the number of flats planned for the scheme to 535.

Some local agents believe the dropping of the aparthotel reflects an oversupply of hotel space in Dublin and a weakness in the demand for corporate rental accommodation.

The revised plans for Stepaside have been unveiled less than three months after Castlethorn received planning permission for a new village at Newtown Little, between the existing village of Stepaside and the M50 motorway ring route around Dublin.
