Catalyst Capital, the European real estate investor and fund manager, is to set up an office in Manchester to expand its presence in the city and in the North West.
Catalyst has hired Tom McWilliams, JLL’s director of city centre development in Manchester, as development director.
Headquartered in London, the firm has offices in Paris, Frankfurt and Warsaw.
It invests in a mix of commercial assets, including alternatives and infrastructure, across Europe. Last year, it achieved a first close in its €1bn Core Plus European Property Fund, which targets assets in Germany, Poland, the UK and France.a
In Manchester, it owns the 98,000 sq ft Arkwright House, which it finished refurbishing in October. It has let 15,000 sq ft to private healthcare provider Push Doctor and about 7,000 sq ft to engineering firm Ramboll.
Catalyst also submitted a planning application last year for a 224-bedroom aparthotel operated by StayCity in Manchester’s New Cross district.
McWilliams, who will start near the end of August, has been at JLL since 2007 and advises on both commercial and residential development in the city centre. He was also picked as one of EG’s rising stars in 2017.
