Cathedral signs agreement for £300m Bromley makeover

Cathedral Group has signed a development agreement with Bromley council for the £300m regeneration of Bromley High Street.

The scheme around Westmoreland Road in Bromley proposes a cultural and recreational hub called Bromley South Central.

Cathedral’s Geddes-designed plans will see the Westmoreland Road car park demolished and replaced with a mixed use leisure development.

The scheme comprises a public piazza, a nine screen multiplex cinema, 25,000 sq ft of cafes and restaurants, a 150 bedroom business hotel, 173 private and affordable apartments and a 400 space underground car park.

Cathedral chief executive Richard Upton said: “Throughout the UK regeneration projects are running into trouble. Yet even in the current climate Cathedral has been able to ensure that 60% of the Bromley South Central scheme is under offer to quality leisure and public infrastructure covenants and other service providers.”

Work will start on the site next year, completing in 2012.
