CBRE has hired Sam Carson to lead sustainability advisory services within its UK valuation and advisory business.
Carson joins the firm from green advisory Carbon Intelligence, where he was director of sustainability and had responsibility for leading and developing sustainability solutions for commercial real estate and overseeing projects for clients including Aviva Investors and Federated Hermes REIM.
Reporting to head of valuation and advisory services Nick Knight, Carson will be tasked with integrating sustainability benchmarks and consulting services within CBRE’s valuation business, enabling the team to consider the impact of environmental risk on real estate values, and will provide a fund valuation service that offers asset-level specific reporting using industry benchmarks. He will also seek to embed best practice and innovation around sustainable working practices within the team.
“Rarely is a real estate decision made these days without a serious consideration for sustainability,” said Knight. “With the real estate industry navigating a path to net zero carbon emissions by 2050, we are constantly looking for ways to provide clients with a competitive advantage and having Sam integrated within our team will enable us to embed sustainability at the forefront of all of our valuation advice.”
Julie Townsend, head of environmental consultancy at CBRE, added: “We are working hard to embed sustainability advice across our lines of business and sectors and Sam’s appointment into valuation is the next step in achieving this. His strong track record in advising a range of institutional investors on sustainability issues and specifically his expertise around sustainability benchmarks and associated key performance indicators, will be critical to us achieving the best outcomes for our clients.”
