VIDEO: TV presenter George Clarke and 2005 X-Factor winner Shayne Ward joined almost 1,000 runners racing up London’s Tower 42, for homelessness charity Shelter.
The Vertical Rush event is in its seventh year and is the UK’s highest tower-running challenge.
Raising £250,000, funds from this year’s race will go towards Shelter’s emergency helpline.
Clarke climbed all 932 steps of Tower 42 in nine minutes 29 seconds, beating Ward by just 77 seconds.
Shelter chief executive Campbell Robb said: “It’s been amazing to see so many people geared up and ready to take on the UK’s tallest stair-running challenge for Shelter today. Having done it twice myself, I know just how tough it is.”
Kirsh Group chief executive Philip Lewis said: “We’re happy to be supporting the event. It’s the one big thing we do with Shelter at Tower 42. This is something that is close to our hearts in the City of London.
“While the economy seems to have turned for the better, housing markets we are told are booming, and yet there are thousands of people that can’t get a roof over their head. So it seems entirely relevant that a big property investor such as us should be participating with Shelter.”
