DTZ has been brought on board to find a buyer for a 4.2 acre site vacated by Cardiff-based ships’ anchor and chain maker Beal & Son.
The site, on the corner of Canal Parade and Dumballs Road on the south side of the city centre, is rumoured to be a favoured location for a new 100,000 sq ft University of Glamorgan media studies campus.
Beal & Son, which was established 218 years ago and has been in Dumballs Road for almost a century, recently weighed anchor and moved to a purpose-built unit in Caerphilly.
Rhys James, head of DTZ’s Cardiff office, said: “The site offers considerable scope for a high quality scheme which will further help to progress the regeneration of what has been known historically as an industrial use area.
“During the past four years this locality has been transformed by new prestigious office buildings. Leading businesses who have moved to the area include, Eversheds Solicitors, the AA, Zurich Insurance, Lloyds TSB and Allied Irish Bank.
“It is unusual for a prime freehold site of this size in the centre of Cardiff to be brought to the market. We are expecting keen interest from both local and national development companies.”
Proposals are being invited by March 10.
