Centrica has signed up to take the whole of the former Norweb building in Talbot Road, south Manchester.
The firm, which trades as British Gas, the Automobile Association and Goldfish, has taken 7,800 sq m (84,000 sq ft) at a rent of £1.05m pa, which equates to £135 per sq m (£12.50 per sq ft).
This will be Centrica’s seventh office in the Manchester area. The company has earmarked the space for its telecommunications business.
Chesterton’s Rupert Barron, who advised Centrica on the deal, said: “Although the property is 12 years old, it is highly specified. Floor plate size was of key importance in Centrica’s decision to take the space.”
The building was bought last year by the RAC from United Utilities. The RAC is believed to have paid around £11m for the scheme.
DTZ Debenham Tie Leung advised RAC.
