Centros Miller to double the size of Bury St Edmunds town centre

Centros Miller is drawing up plans for a site in Bury St Edmunds which will double the size of the town centre.

The developer was selected by St Edmundsbury council and will work in partnership with the local authority on proposals for the 10-acre former Cattle Market.

St Edmundsbury council wants the site, which adjoins the town’s main retail district, to be redeveloped as mainly retail space with a department store, flats on the upper floors and parking for at least 1,250 cars. The council has no objection to offices on the site prefers to see retail and residential uses take priority.

The development will not rise above four storeys and will follows a grid pattern which blends with the rest of Bury town centre. The site also includes two listed buildings which will be incorporated into the development.

Michael Hopkins has been appointed architect for the scheme.
