St Martins Corporation, the property arm of the Kuwaiti Investment Office, is planning to double the size of 5 Cheapside, the concrete hexagonal office block by St Paul’s Cathedral, EC2. St Martins is working up plans to redevelop the 44,000 sq ft office block, nicknamed the “Threepenny Bit”, into a 100,000 sq ft, six-storey scheme designed by John McAslam & Partners. The scheme will only be possible if St Martins is able to buy additional land next to the building from landlords Corporation of London and the Crown Estate.
