Strong demand for its vegan sausage rolls, healthy sandwiches and coffee have helped Greggs to defy the pressure on the high street to post a sharp rise in sales and profits.
The hype around its vegan sausage roll helped to lure curious customers into its stores, but the bakery chain said yesterday that it is now Britain’s second biggest sandwich retailer behind Tesco and has overtaken Starbucks to be the third biggest coffee chain behind Costa and McDonald’s.
