A technical problem with the Bank of England’s payment system that supports Chaps jeopardised house transactions yesterday.
The bank’s RTGS system developed a fault, which meant thousands of home moves had to be put on hold for a few hours.
The National Association of Estate Agents said more people were likely to be moving house this week because it was school half-term in many parts of the country.
