On 10 September, 198 property professionals from across the UK travelled to Drumlanrig Castle on the Queensberry Estate in Dumfries and Galloway to take part in the 2021 Buccleuch Property Challenge and raise more than £20,000 for the Borders Children’s Charity.
The participants took on the adrenaline-fuelled adventure race, designed by BlueSky Experiences, which included mountain biking, paddle boarding, wild swimming and orienteering over a distance of 40km.
The money raised by the event will help the charity support children experiencing poverty in the Scottish Borders.
Guinness Partnership plants pint-sized forests
Housing association the Guinness Partnership is teaming up with environmental charity Earthwatch Europe to create “tiny forests” at its new and existing housing developments.
The Tiny Forest initiative, whereby native trees and shrubs are densely planted in a small urban area, aims to connect people with nature, help mitigate the impact of climate change and improve biodiversity.
Earthwatch will train local community volunteers to act as “citizen scientists” to monitor the benefits that the forests can provide. The data gathered will help scientists better understand the role that nature can play in an urban landscape, while benefiting the local communities through education and engagement.
