Charity and social: Design festival celebrates Marylebone

The Portman Estate and the Howard de Walden Estate are partnering with London Design Festival for a second year to host the Marylebone Design District.

The nine-day festival runs from 14 to 22 September and will celebrate the art, design and cultural offerings of Marylebone, one of London’s most distinguished areas, on Wednesday 18 September.

Visitors to Marylebone High Street, New Cavendish Street, Chiltern Street, Dorset Street and Crawford Street – as well as other roads in the neighbourhood – will enjoy a host of workshops, talks, demonstrations, exhibitions and launches over the course of the Festival.

The London Design Festival was conceived by Sir John Sorrell and Ben Evans in 2003 to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world. Last year the event welcomed more than 580,000 people from over 75 countries.

Redrow staff overcome obstacles in Tough Mudder challenge

A group of 13 employees from Redrow Homes Yorkshire battled it out in a Tough Mudder challenge in aid of two charities.

The two teams faced mud, water, electricity and numerous obstacles as they fought their way to the finish line at Broughton Hall, near Skipton.

The men’s team completed the 10-mile ‘classic course’ in just over three hours, while the women’s team finished the 5K course in one hour and 25 minutes.

The combined determination and teamwork of both teams raised £2,050 for Martin House, a hospice for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and £300 for Cancer Research UK.

More than a walk in the park for retail agents

Members of the Shop Agents Society came together on 29 August to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity.

Sporting their Brain Tumour Charity T-shirts, the group raised more than £300 by completing a 5km run through London’s Hyde Park.

Shake your Money Maker

The Money Maker Challenge, organised by Palmer Capital on behalf of LandAid, is increasing momentum, with six teams now signed up. Each team is given £250 to play, and the aim of the game is to increase the profits as much as you can by whatever means necessary.

In previous years, competing teams have increased their returns through games nights, auctions, gala dinners and a host of sporting challenges.

The event winners and the final earnings will be revealed on 22 November at a celebratory party. So, if you have a team and would like to help match the £25,000 total the challenge raised last year for youth homelessness, contact Beth Coakley at beth.coakley@palmercapital.co.uk.
