The Ashby office of Fisher German in Leicestershire has been honoured with a visit from local Team GB athlete and medal-winner Julie Freestone.
The Leicester athlete recently returned from the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, where she won bronze with Team GB women’s basketball, and called into the office to personally thank the firm for helping to fund her trip.
As the athletes had to fund all their own expenses for the tour, without sponsorship from Fisher German Julie would have been unable to attend the Games.
Ben Marshalsay, head of development at Fisher German, said: “We knew Julie was a great athlete, so when we heard she was struggling with her funding to attend the Special Olympics we were only too happy to pledge our support.
“We’re all so pleased we were able to get her to Abu Dhabi so she could compete, and the fact that she won a bronze medal was the icing on the cake.”

Shooting day raises £43,000
The 12th annual Willow Foundation shoot day event – supported by Paul White of Frogmore Property and Greg Nicholson, former executive director of CBRE – has raised more than £43,000 for seriously ill young adults.
More than 100 guests joined Arsenal legends David Seaman and Bob Wilson, who co-founded Willow with his wife, Megs, at the prestigious Royal Berkshire Shooting School for the simulated shooting event, which included a charity auction. The event has raised nearly £600,000 for Willow since it began in 2007, and has provided more than 16,000 Special Days for young adults diagnosed with a life-threatening condition.
Canary Wharf Group staff hit the streets
Employees at Canary Wharf Group traded public transport for trainers last month for National Walk to Work Day to draw attention to the benefits of getting out and about on foot, as well as to raise awareness of the environmental impacts of commuting.
By swapping their usual mode of transport for steps, approximately 190 miles of ground was covered and an estimated 23kg of CO2 emissions was saved.
Brian De’ath, director of residential sales, walked the longest single distance of 30 miles from Bishop’s Stortford in Hertfordshire, which took him nine hours.
Canary Wharf Group made a donation of £1,250 to a local arts charity.
