Charity and social: Mexican wave of giving raises over £3,000

Cordia Blackswan has raised more than £3,000 for local charity Spring Housing, which assists people in need of housing and works to fight homelessness and social isolation. The developer hosted a Mexican-themed evening at its Birmingham headquarters, complete with food, a Mariachi band and sugar skull face painting.

There was also a charity raffle and auction, with prizes donated by local companies Fokawolf and The Wilderness.

Homes from empty spaces

Blackstone Real Estate has partnered with Habitat for Humanity GB to assist the charity with its Empty Spaces projects, which convert vacant commercial spaces into affordable homes for vulnerable groups facing homelessness.

The developer is supporting the redevelopment of a vacant unit in Barking and Dagenham that will become four bedsit rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a large shared living, dining and kitchen space.

In addition to Blackstone staff volunteering on-site over the course of the new partnership, the company will share its expertise with Habitat for Humanity GB to address London’s shortage of affordable housing.
