This year’s Steptober competitors have now walked more than 100 million steps, a rate that, if maintained, will be the equivalent of two circuits of the Earth by the end of the month.
With just days of the challenge left, competition is hotting up ahead of the awards on LandAid Day, 1 November. Five prizes are up for grabs and things are looking tight at both ends of the league table.
1. Highest team/company fundraiser, sponsored by IPSX: A clear winner has raced out in front – our #4CEOs4Steptober. David Atkins of Hammerson, Chris Grigg of British Land, Robert Noel of Landsec and David Sleath of SEGRO have now raised more than £30,000, enough to sponsor a two-bed home for young homeless people.
2. Location outside London with the highest step count, sponsored by Gerald Eve: The North is leading the race with a tremendous 8,936,868 steps! In second place we have the South West with 4,130,250, followed by Yorkshire with 2,336,078.
3. Individual with the highest step count: Archie Blair from Abstract Securities is a clear leader with 615,385. Behind him is Andrea from Clearbell and Matthew from Leach Rhodes Walker who are both approaching half a million.
4. Team/company with the highest step count: Leach Rhodes Walker. Team CLG remains firmly at the top of the leader board with an impressive 1,985,000 steps. But, despite them holding on to the top spot for the whole competition, there are several contenders hot on their heels: Northern Scam, the second Leach Rhodes Walker team, Newington Comms Essex, and Hot Steppers from M7.
5. Wooden spoon for the lowest step count: At the bottom of the ranking is Headland. There’s still time to get those steps up, though. Alternatively, you can buy yourself out of the booby prize with a £1,000 donation to LandAid Steptober!
As the end of Steptober approaches, the challenge has raised £61,985 so far towards ending youth homelessness.
Sara dishes up a charity treat
Sara Bailey, managing partner and head of real estate at Trowers & Hamlins, hosted a charity dinner this month raising more than £25,000 to help to fight cancer in children.
The dinner was attended by 120 friends of the firm, including some high-profile property and business figures. World Child Cancer ambassadors Geeta Nanda, chief executive of Metropolitan Thames Valley, and Guy’s & St Thomas’ Dr Robert Carr spoke about the difference the charity makes.
Bailey, also an ambassador for the charity, said: “This amount of money will have an enormous impact on desperate children who don’t have access to the lifesaving treatment they need.”
It takes fundraising by Bailey and other charity ambassadors above their original £100,000 goal set in the spring.
Crest’s hiking teams hit peak performance
Crest Nicholson has raised more than £30,000 for the Youth Adventure Trust in the inaugural Housebuilder Mountain Marathon 2018.
Crest Nicholson was one of the headline sponsors of the event and also had seven teams from its regional divisions take part in the hike across Snowdonia.
The Youth Adventure Trust runs a developmental programme based around outdoor activities.
The ride stuff
A bike ride arranged by LaSalle Investment Management has raised £20,000 for LandAid. The 92-mile ride from Birmingham to Manchester was completed by 100 property professionals, with funds aiding the St Basils homelessness charity in Birmingham and local communities charity Manchester Settlement.
Sleeping duties
Residential estate agent John D Wood & Co has raised £3,500 in a sleep-out for London homelessness charity Glass Door. The 18 colleagues slept out in Duke of York Square, Chelsea, on 5 October. Glass Door works in partnership with churches and runs London’s largest network of emergency night shelters in winter.
SEGRO just the job
London and Thames Valley charities have received £115,000 from SEGRO through its community fund. SEGRO launched the programme in 2015 and has now provided £340,000 to organisations that support young and vulnerable people in finding jobs. Among this year’s recipients are the Adult Dyslexia Centre, Learning to Work, Parents and Children Together, 100 Black Men of London, and Refuge.
