Charity and social: Savills’ Timmis raises £4,400 for veterans

Henry Timmis, an associate director at Savills, hit the slopes with the Supporting Wounded Veterans charity as part of its 2019 Veterans Skihabilitation week and raised more than £4,400.

The charity, which helps medically discharged wounded veterans get back into civilian life, took 26 former soldiers on a trip to Switzerland to help improve their quality of life and rehabilitation.

The week of skiing allows veterans to embark upon a new path to fitness and wellbeing, and makes up a small part of their rehabilitation. As part of the scheme they are given a mentor and offered a pain management programme to ensure they receive the correct help to return to employment or training.

Robinson’s desert race challenge

Joe Robinson Landsec

LandSec chartered surveyor Joe Robinson and his sister Grace Gilbert are taking on the 34th Marathon des Sables for the charity Walk Once More.

The event is a gruelling multi-stage ultra-marathon in the Sahara Desert, where temperatures reach more than 50 degrees Celsius. The duo will race for more than 156 miles in what is dubbed the toughest footrace on earth.

The extreme endeavour will mark 10 years since Joe was involved in a near-fatal car accident which claimed the life of his friend. Having undergone a long and arduous recovery, his commitment to the challenge is part of an aspiration to say ‘thank you’, and to repay the medical care he received they will be running the challenge for the spinal cord charity Walk Once More.

He has already doubled his original target and has raised more than £20,000 for charity to date. To donate, visit https://siblingsinthesahara.co.uk
