Charity round-up: CEOs breakfast for New Horizon

Property execs get behind New Horizon

Some of London’s top property chief executives joined broadcaster Jon Snow last month at a charity breakfast for New Horizon Youth Centre, the capital’s leading day centre for homeless 16- to 21-year-olds.

The event aimed to raise funds for the current day centre and to use the wealth of industry knowledge present to discuss ideas for a much-needed emergency shelter to help tackle London’s homelessness crisis.

Leaders from Galliard Homes, Cain International, O’Shea and Fairview New Homes were among the senior property figures that attended the breakfast.

Charity patron Jon Snow highlighted the vital services New Horizon provides to London’s many vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. Preparing the breakfast for the centre’s young clients, developers heard about the crisis of youth homelessness, before making pledges to fund New Horizon’s vital work.

Developers discussed plans for the emergency London shelter at the event, reviewing the feasibility of the design and potential sites for the project.

For more than 50 years New Horizon has provided a support network to vulnerable young people in London, offering food and sanitation services, plus help to access accommodation, employment and training, as well as counselling.

The charity aims to raise more than £200,000 through corporate donations. The contributions raised through the breakfast event have been doubled by one generous donor.

Phil Kerry, chief executive of the charity, said: “New Horizon Youth Centre supports up to 60 young Londoners per day with everything they need to create positive futures.

“The charity breakfast has aided our ongoing corporate fundraising initiative, and it was fantastic for our young visitors to meet and talk with so many prominent figures from the property industry.”
