Asking prices for London homes jumped 5.7% to a record £613,922 in June, led by a 25% rise in prices in Chelsea and Kensington, data from Rightmove showed.
Asking prices nationwide were up 3% at £294,351, a record rise for the month of June.
Rightmove attributed the increase in large part to owners of higher-priced properties returning to the market – the number of properties priced at £2m-plus almost doubled in the month after the general election result. Nationwide, the number of new properties being listed fell 3.9% on the month and 8.5% on the year.
