Chelverton submits plans for £65m Kent town centre

Chelverton Properties and the Secretary of State for Health today jointly submitted a planning application to Thanet council for a 33,000 sq m (350,000 sq ft) town-centre development at Westwood in Thanet in Kent aimed at kick-starting the region’s regeneration.

The £65m Westwood Cross scheme proposes 23,000 sq m (250,000 sq ft) of retail, a 7,000 sq m (80,000 sq ft) leisure area and 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft) of offices. The centre will also include streets, squares, public transportation hubs and community facilities.

Carlo Comninos of Chelverton said: “Westwood Cross will represent a central piece in the jigsaw of Thanet’s regeneration. By providing a high-quality, accessible destination, Chelverton’s proposal will act as a catalyst to kick-start the various initiatives in the Thanet Local Plan Review.”

Comninos said that the company was in talks with potential anchor tenants of a department store, multiplex cinema and a bowling alley or swimming pool.
