A joint venture has revealed plans to create a new gateway into Chester.
The partnership between Cheshire West and Chester Council, Network Rail and LCR could see the delivery of up to 600 new homes and a hotel in the area surrounding Chester station over the next 10 years.
The proposals also include enhanced travel connectivity to the city, with improved public realm, car parking, walking and cycling routes, as well as a construction of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge.
It forms a part of the council’s strategic regeneration framework aimed to attract inward investment, support future funding bids and inform future planning applications. So far, the partnership has identified seven redevelopment locations, including Station Square, Queens Road, Lightfoot Street East and West, and Hoole Way Edge.
Richard Beacham, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cabinet member for inclusive growth, economy & regeneration, said: “Over the next 10 years, this new strategic regeneration framework will help the council achieve our ambitions for the gateway to deliver new homes, jobs, community assets and public realm and transport improvements.
Peter Rowe, senior development manager at LCR, added: “The vision for the site goes beyond just surface-level improvements and will create real change to the wider area, better connecting it to the surrounding communities and making it more accessible for those who use it.”
The project team for the masterplan comprises CBRE, Arup, 5th Studio and Faithful Gould.
