Chez Gerard beefs up restaurant chain

Upmarket restaurant chain Groupe Chez Gerard is to open more of its steak and frites and Livebait fish restaurants after customer response to its existing sites “exceeded expectations”.

The group is to open two new Livebait’s in London before Christmas, and one Chez Gerard steak and frites site in Cambridge, which will be ready for customers early next year.

Groupe Chez Gerard said the expansion followed recent successful openings of three restaurants in London which had exceeded expectations.

David Williams, chief executive, said: “The dramatically increased rate of new site openings demonstrate the new team’s commitment to the strategic objectives set out in December last year, to focus on the rapid expansion of our two core premium brands – Chez Gerard and Livebait.”

The expansion plans follow Groupe Chez Gerard’s sale of its Richoux Coffee chain in London for £2.7m, the proceeds of which will be pumped into expanding its two core brands.

Following the three new openings, the company will have nine Livebait restaruants and 13 Chez Gerard’s.

It also owns the London restaurants Bertorelli’s, Scotts, Soho Soho and Brasserie St Quentin.
