Hammersmith & Fulham property guru Melbourne Barrett has been named chief executive of Basingstoke and Deane borough council.
Barrett will replace Tony Curtis who retired at the end of November after seven years as chief executive. The appointment is subject to approval at a council meeting on 11 December.
He is currently executive director of housing and regeneration at the London borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, with responsibility for a £1bn residential property portfolio.
Prior to this he was a director of the London Development Agency and chief executive of Docklands East London Agency.
In Basingstoke and Deane a number of developments are planned, including the redevelopment of 65-acre Basing View district.
Council leader Clive Sanders said: “Our borough is on the brink of great things with so much happening and moving forward here. This is an exciting appointment as Mel will bring the mix of skills and experience we need to take forward our vision.”
Subject to approval, he will join the council in spring 2015.
