China Evergrande to sell properties as debt default looms

China’s most heavily indebted property developer has warned that it risks defaulting unless it can raise cash soon.

China Evergrande warned yesterday in an interim earnings statement that it would sell properties, having already made plans to sell its non-core businesses.

It has 778 projects across 223 cities in China.

The company has cut debt to roughly $89bn, down from $111bn at the end of 2020.
