Chinese choose Wigan for ‘Textiles City’

The outskirts of Wigan is to get a large textile manufacturing centre dubbed “Textiles City.”

The Chinese government has chosen the Lancashire town for the project.

It would be the largest such development in the UK.

Chinamex, which helps Chinese firms expand overseas, has agreed with a property developer and Wigan council to develop a brownfield site at Westwood Park.

Chinamex is believed to have agreed to take on up to 2m sq ft, about half of which would be sued for textiles manufacturing and the rest for research and development and as a showcase for China’s manufacturing sector.
