Retirement home specialist Birchgrove has got the go-ahead to transform a former police station on Chiswick High Street, W4, into a 50-bed later living scheme.
Originally opened in 1972, the police station at 205-211 Chiswick High Road closed in 2021 and was sold by the Metropolitan Police to Birchgrove in April 2022. The group has spent almost two years consulting on the project.
Birchgrove has also agreed to provide a £400,000 contribution towards affordable housing in Hounslow as part of the planning consent.
Chief executive Honor Barratt said: “All too often older people are shoved to the end of a cul-de-sac somewhere, but not here. With our development bang in the middle of Chiswick High Street, our residents will be able to flourish at the heart of the community.”
The consent forms part of a plan by Hounslow Council to deliver 135 new specialist homes for elderly people a year across the borough.
