Ronaldo hotel scores planning consent

An 11-storey hotel part-funded by football star Cristiano Ronaldo has been given the green light by Manchester City Council.

A joint venture between private investor Eastern Green and Pestana Hotel Group, which Ronaldo has teamed up with, will redevelop the unoccupied Grade II listed building at 67 Piccadilly into a 151-bedroom hotel.

The hotel, located on close to the Northern Quarter, will also include ground-floor retail and leisure space, a gym and roof terrace.

The jv has stumped up more than £27m to redevelop the building. Pestana will be the hotel operator and, according to planning statements, is “keen to expand its brand into the UK regions” after opening a hotel in London in 2010.

It is expected that 187 new jobs, and 228 construction jobs, will be created by the scheme. It is earmarked to open in 2023.

Colliers International advised on the application.
