Church claims right to sell school to developers

The Church of England has been accused of “unchristian behaviour” and “out and out plunder” after claiming control of £1m of disputed property.

Residents of Rathmell, a village in the Yorkshire Dales, were outraged when the Leeds diocese claimed that it could sell the former primary school, a house on the site and surrounding land to developers.

Since the school closed in 2017 it has been converted into a community hub by trustees.
