Circle Housing has bought a site with the potential for 160 new homes near the village of Hardwick on the outskirts of Cambridge.
The housing association will submit plans for the 18-acre site later this month, and has previously worked with Cambridgeshire ACRE, the local authority and Hardwick parish council to identify a suitable site to meet the area’s housing need.
Philip Browne, development director for Circle Housing, said: “With 1,600 people currently on the housing waiting list, South Cambridgeshire has an acute shortage of genuinely affordable housing.”
62 of the units will be affordable.
