City & Country (Edinburgh) has secured a £14.2m loan facility from Royal Bank of Scotland to redevelop the former Donaldson’s School for the Deaf site in Edinburgh into a residential scheme.
The joint venture between UK and European Investments and City & Country will use the funds to progress the first two phases of the site’s conversion into 110 apartments in the Playfair building and two gate lodges.
The apartments will range in size from one to three bedrooms and cost between £250,000 and £2.5m.
Located in Edinburgh’s West End and surrounded by 18 acres of grounds, the building was built in the 1840s and designed by William Henry Playfair. It is now a Category-A listed property.
The site was previously used as a specialist school for deaf children, which was relocated in 2008.
