City of London gives interim planning director permanent job

The City of London Corporation has appointed Gywn Richards, its interim planning and development director for the last year, to the permanent role.

Richards, who has been involved in every tower scheme in the Square Mile in the past decade, has also worked in planning roles for Westminster City Council and Kensington and Chelsea Council.

He will lead the corporation’s development management team of 40 people, including planning, design, conservation, archeology and transport officers.

Planning committee chair Alastair Moss said: “Over the last year Gywn has done a fantastic job in leading the team during an immensely difficult time for the City.”

Richards said: “The last year has been hugely challenging for all of us, but recent planning applications show that investors and developers remain confident in the future of the City.

“I have long been committed in ensuring that planning in the City is radical, forward-looking and proactive. We want to make sure that the Square Mile is a successful, inclusive place for all.

“I will continue to lead my team to deliver a sustainable, cleaner and greener City that meets the needs of all our diverse communities.”
