City of London’s tallest tower set for green light

1 Undershaft is set to become the tallest tower in the City of London after planning officers recommended approval for the 73 storey building.

The decision on the tower, known as the Trellis, is expected to be rubberstamped at a City of London planning committee on Monday. Singaporean property developers Aroland reduced the height of the proposed building after concerns from City Airport.

The 304m tower on the site of the former Aviva Tower, which was damaged by an IRA bomb in 1992, was designed by Eric Parry, and will comprise 970,000 sq ft, including 20,000 sq ft of basement shops and a restaurant at its summit.

The tower will be five metres shorter than the Shard at London Bridge.

What will be the second tallest tower in the City, 22 Bishopsgate, recently received approval for construction after owners AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets had paused to consider if it would build.
