City’s Peter Rees gets gong

Former City of London planning officer Peter Rees has been given a CBE for services to Architecture and Planning in the New Years Honours list.

Although Rees left the City Corporation in 2013 after his post was scrapped in a cost-saving restructuring, he is still regarded as one of the leading figures in London’s development.

During his 29-year tenure some 78% of the city’s office space was renewed, with iconic structures including the Gherkin, the Walkie-Talkie and the Cheesegrater skyscrapers and the Broadgate development of the late 1980s.

Since leaving his City Corporation post Rees has joined the prestigious architecture school The Bartlett as Professor of Places and City Planning.
