CK Cheung’s £700m Hyde Park palace gets green light

Cheung Chung-kiu has been given the green light for a hundred-million makeover of his Hyde Park palace.

Westminster Council has approved the unassuming billionaire’s plans for the 45-room 2-8 Rutland Gate, which have been drawn up by Squire and Partners.

Once completed the 62,000 sq ft mega-mansion will have 20 bedrooms, a double height entertaining room, an Olympic-sized pool, a gym, a spa and beauty salon, all topped-off by a vaulted rooftop conservatory which opens to the sky and a “massive VIP roof garden for entertaining”.

When the chairman of CC Land bought the building for £210m in 2020 it was in a derelict state, having been empty since the death of previous owner Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, in 2011.

Once Cheung’s changes are complete the mansion is expected to be worth between £500m and £700m.
