Clandon Park, the 18th-century Surrey mansion that was destroyed by fire in April last year, is to be partly restored, National Trust director Helen Ghosh said.
The trust plans to fully restore the ground floor of the Grade-I-listed building, returning it to its appearance in 1720 according to plans drawn up at the time by architect Giacomo Leoni. A competition is to be held to find an architect to design events and exhibition space on the less significant upper floor of the building.
The trust described the proposed restoration as its most ambitious conservation project in a generation.
