Clarion buys Kent site

Conningbrook LakesClarion Housing Group has bought a site on the outskirts of Ashford, Kent, which has planning for 300 homes.

The housing association, which is the largest in the UK, bought the 31 acre Conningbrook Lakes site from Brett Group and Ashford Borough Council.

Chartway Construction has been appointed to build the homes and the first phases are to be available by summer 2018.

Kerry Kyriacou, executive director of development for Clarion Housing Group, said:  “We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Ashford Borough Council and now we look forward to helping to deliver its ambitious vision for Conningbrook Lakes.”

Clarion was created by the merger between Affinity Sutton and Circle Housing Group in 2016. It announced an intention to deliver 50,000 homes over the next 10 years, two thirds of which will be affordable.

Clarion Housing Group owns and manages 125,000 homes across 176 local UK authorities. It is the largest housing association in the UK and one of the country’s leading housebuilders. It has a combined turnover of £827m, a surplus before tax of £233mn and existing assets worth £20bn.
