Clarion eyes Merton regeneration

Clarion Housing Group has submitted three separate applications to Merton Council in London for estate regeneration schemes.

Combined they represent the largest application to date for the recently formed housing association, the result of a merger between Affinity Sutton and Circle Housing Group last year.

Under the proposals, Clarion would invest £1bn in the borough, deliver 2,800 new homes and “rehouse all existing tenants and resident homeowners who wish to remain.”

Around 1,000 homes will be demolished across the three estates: Eastfields, High Path and Ravensbury. Clarion aims to build 50,000 homes over the next ten years.

The largest of the three schemes is High Path, which lies next to South Wimbledon Underground station, SW19. Some 1,704 homes will be built in buildings of up to 10 storeys. Outline plans recently submitted for 1,570 homes will add to the 134 homes already granted consent within the first phase.

Bob Beaumont, director of regeneration at Clarion, said “Our plans will provide opportunities for training and employment and a range of initiatives to improve the life chances of young people in Merton.”

Savills is acting on behalf of Clarion Housing Group.
