MIPIM UK: Cities minister Greg Clark has written to the chairs of every Local Enterprise Partnership in the UK to accelerate distribution of the government’s £6bn local growth fund.
“We want them to come forward with their next propositions,” he told an invitation-only investors’ lunch at MIPIM UK. “We’re open for business and I want to conclude these deals in the weeks ahead.”
Clark also told the audience of around 100 investors and local authority leaders that the government would devolve power to local levels, but would expect closer working between cities and between the public and private sectors.
“Cities around the world that work best are connected cities,” he said. “The big story in the UK is the big opportunity in regional cities. My mission has been to put power back into the hands of city and county leaders.”
