Legal giant Clifford Chance is to take on 500 lawyers over the next two years in a massive expansion of its European operations.
Commercial property specialists will join banking and corporate finance lawyers in a planned expansion of services in Paris, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Rome, Prague, Brussels, Budapest and Moscow.
Tom Rose of Clifford Chance said the project will be expensive but is a sound long-term investment: “We are in a very strong position to undertake significant organic growth.”
Clifford Chance has long-standing and well-established commercial property practices in Paris, Madrid and Barcelona. Last year a commercial property specialist was sent to pioneer operations in Warsaw. As a result, three new lawyers – two of them Poles – have been taken on to cope with exponential growth in demand.
Teddy Bourne, a property partner in London, said Clifford Chance is also expanding in Moscow: “Although there are problems with investor confidence there is a huge demand for property in Russia.”
