The COP26 climate change summit has cause a “gold rush” for short-term rental properties in Glasgow, with rates for the two weeks soaring to more than £100,000.
At least 20 properties on Airbnb and 30 on Booking.com were found to be going for more than £20,000 for the fortnight. The average nightly price for an Airbnb rental had tripled to more than £600.
But some prices are much higher. Morad Adil Bhatti, a wealth and property manager, is renting his apartment in the affluent area of Kelvingrove for £103,000 for 12 nights. The two-bedroom duplex is advertised on Airbnb as “an exclusive COP26 retreat” within walking distance of the summit’s headquarters, the Scottish Event Campus.
