The Clothworkers’ Company has unveiled plans to redevelop a site on Fenchurch Street, including its Livery Hall, into a 36-storey tower.
Designed by Eric Parry Architects, the scheme, to be known as 50 Fenchurch Street, will feature a public roof garden and winter garden at level 10 and 667,362 sq ft of office space, as well as new public realm.
The scheme will also include a new Clothworkers’ Hall, located largely beneath the new proposed public realm. It will be the seventh Livery Hall for The Clothworkers’ Company, which has called the site home for nearly 500 years.
Eric Parry of Eric Parry Architects said: “The design journey of this urban proposition has been one of the most remarkable alignments between commerce, culture and the public realm that I have experienced.”
Clerk of The Clothworkers’ Company, Jocelyn Stuart-Grumbar, said: “The project is part of our strategy for investing in the future of the company and the foundation here in the City of London, and offers us an opportunity to maximise our assets and increase our charitable impact.”
The Clothworkers’ Company has appointed Capital Real Estate Partners as its development manager.
The Clothworkers’ Company was founded in 1528 to promote the craft of cloth finishing in the City of London. The Clothworkers’ Foundation was established in 1977 to be the primary vehicle of charitable giving for The Clothworkers’ Company. Since then, it has awarded capital grants of more than £135m.
