Turner Broadcasting has put Carlton’s space on Great Marlborough Street under offer in one of the largest single lettings in London’s West End this year.
Turner, parent company of global news giant CNN, is taking just under 9,290m2 (100,000 sq ft) at 18 Great Marlborough Street, W1. The company is taking an assignment of Carlton’s 15-year lease at a passing rental of around £431 per m2 (£40 per sq ft).
Cartoon Network, one of Turner’s broadcasting subsidiaries, and Turner will occupy the offices. CNN will stay in offices on Rathbone Place.
DTZ Debenham Thorpe is Turner’s agent while Hodnett Martin Smith acted for Carlton.
Meanwhile, Benchmark’s 6,591m2 (70,945 sq ft) Stirling Square office scheme on Carlton Gardens in St James is tipped to set a new top rent for the West End. Kohlberg Kravis Roberts set the previous high for the cycle of £700 per m2 (£65 per sq ft) at the same building and is now thought to have put the fourth floor under offer at £727 per m2 (£67.50 per sq ft).
