A merged Britannia Building Society and Co-operative Financial Services will pursue further takeover deals, Neville Richardson, chief executive designate of the enlarged group, has told the Financial Times.
The new entity would be particularly keen to go after acquisitions in Scotland and Wales although it would consider deals in all parts of the UK.
Some 54 building societies with £380bn in assets will remain in the UK once the deal goes through.
