The buildings are New Century House on Corporation Street, Old Bank Building and
Co-op originally considered a number of sites around Greater Manchester for its new HQ, including the Fishdock site at Muse Developments’ Victoria Station project and Ask Developments’ Exchange Greengate, before settling on
The group plans to start development on-site in early 2010, with completion expected in mid-2012.
Co-operative Group chief executive Peter Marks said: “This is another important step towards our new head office building and it further underlines the continuing relationship between the Group and the City.
“We intend the building to reflect the continuing success and ethical values of the organisation in its design, construction and its relationship both with employees and surrounding communities.”
