Colliers International has appointed Ben Liao as managing director of its proptech accelerator, Powered by Techstars.
The accelerator, a joint venture with entrepreneurs network Techstars, was created to identify and mentor start-ups around the world that are developing industry-disruptive technologies in the property industry.
Liao will focus on selecting companies from the pool of applicants, partnering with Colliers to define the strategic direction and investment profile within the programme, and creating a strong network of mentors, sponsors, investors and corporate partners.
Liao joins Techstars from Ritual, a venture-backed technology company, where he was a member of the senior leadership team, focusing on creating growth strategies across the US and globally, and leading national partnerships focused on new market entry.
Prior to that, Liao held management and leadership positions in organisations ranging from start-ups to large enterprises, with a focus on strategy, investing, business development and strategic partnerships.
Liao said: “As the need for proptech continues to grow within the real estate industry, and as venture funding continues to enter the sector, our programme will be at the forefront of helping start-ups scale their businesses quickly and strategically. Ultimately, uncovering and shaping enterprising proptech solutions will help accelerate the success of Colliers’ clients and professionals.”
