Colliers has recruited Andy Mercer as its new head of ESG in property management for the UK and EMEA markets.
Mercer was previously head of energy services at JLL, where he worked with landlords and investors on strategies to improve the long-term value of real estate investments and mitigate risks associated with climate change.
Before that, Mercer worked at CBRE as director of energy services.
In his new role, Mercer will oversee an ESG strategy for the firm’s property management clients. He will work with Colliers’ managing director of property management for EMEA Andy Hay, and head of UK property management Mark Jarrett.
Mercer said: “My ambition is to help guide the property sector in reducing its climate impact by focusing on the economic benefits of delivering sustainable strategies and carbon reduction initiatives.
He added: “It is a crucial time in the industry with ESG very much at the forefront of the minds of landlords, investors and occupiers.”
Hay said: “The real estate industry is at a tipping point for ESG advisory services, particularly data collection and its interpretation into market-leading guidance and the resultant experience for both owners and occupiers. Property management is one of the best vehicles to make real and meaningful changes within real estate.”
