The Crossrail Bill has moved a step closer to become law with the appointment of a select committee of the House of Commons.
The hybrid bill was originally presented to the House of Commons on Tuesday 22nd February 2005, and received its second reading on Tuesday 19th July.
It has to pass through a committee stage before it can be presented to both houses for its final readings, after which it becomes law.
Although this is a step forward in the legislative process, there are still no details on how Crossrail will be funded.
The committee will be chaired by Mansfield Labour MP Alan Meale.
The other members of the committee are:
– Brian Binley (Con, Northamptonshire South)
– Katy Clark (Lab, N Ayrshire and Arran)
– Philip Hollobone (Con, Kettering)
– Kelvin Hopkins (Lab, Luton North)
– Sian James (Lab, Swansea East)
– Iain Liddell-Grainger (Con, Bridgwater)
– Dr John Pugh (Lib Dem, Southport)
– Linda Riordan (Lab, Halifax)
– Sir Peter Soulsby (Lab, Leicester South)
